'Vulgar Display Of Power' Book Author Delivers Presentation On Paranoid Schizophrenia
July 18, 2007Gregory L. Van Vorhis of Bowling Green, Ohio's Sentinel-Tribune reports: Two dozen local law enforcement officials learned recently how to better identify persons with paranoid schizophrenia. They also learned how to refer those who they believe suffer from the disease for proper treatment.
The two-hour presentation on paranoid schizophrenia was part of three days of Wood County Crisis Intervention Team training.
Making the presentation was Chris Armold, who wrote the book, "A Vulgar Display of Power: Courage and Carnage at the Alrosa Vila".
The Alrosa Villa in Columbus became infamous as the place where former PANTERA guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, was shot and killed on Dec. 8, 2004.
Abbott, who was performing with his new band, DAMAGEPLAN, was murdered by Nathan Gale, a man diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Gale reportedly believed that Abbott, along with his brother and bandmate, Vinnie Paul Abbott, and PANTERA itself, had been spying on him, drawing inspiration for their songs from his life.
Three other men, Jeff Thompson, Nathan Bray and Erin Halk, also were murdered by Gale that night. The entire incident lasted five minutes before a police officer shot and killed Gale as he held a hostage.
"That illustrates a worst-case scenario of what can happen if it's not dealt with through medication or whatever," Bowling Green Police Lt. Tony Hetrick said of the Alrosa murders.
